Gscan2pdf is a GUI to ease the process of producing PDFs or DjVus from scanned documents. You scan one or several pages in with File/Scan, and create a PDF of selected pages with File/Save PDF. At maturity, the GUI will have similar features to that of the Windows Imaging program, but with the express objective of writing a PDF, including metadata. Scanning is handled with SANE via scanimage. PDF conversion is done by libtiff. Perl is used for portability and ease of programming, with gtk2-perl for the GUI. This should therefore work more or less out of the box on any system with gtk2-perl, scanimage, and libtiff.

I am satisfied with the quality of the scans, and the features available. It does what I need it to do, and does it better than I had hoped. I would recommend this product to a friend that I wanted to keep. Old, but cheap and works well in Linux Linux doesn't care whether this is a ScanSnap S300 (Windows version) or a ScanSnap S300M (Mac version)!:) Buy whichever one is in better condition or cheaper. This produces nice scans. The scanner was made in 2009, but in 2017 the one I just bought still works great.
The scanner is compatible with Linux using sane-backends and your favorite scanning frontend. Simple Scan, XSane, and GScan2Pdf all work for me, but I prefer GScan2Pdf. I recommend searching 'josh archer scansnap s300 drivers linux' for great advice on setting this up. I am not Josh Archer; I just found his guide useful.
